What is the difference between Linux and Windows hosting?
The operating system you run on your computer, while most likely Microsoft Windows, should have no impact on which plan you select. Most customers find Linux plans to be most suitable, and that Windows plans bring an added level of complexity.
A Linux plan is suitable if you wish to develop a HTML, PHP, Perl or Python based website. A Windows plan is required if you wish to develop an ASP or .Net website, require the use of COM Objects or require the use of ODBC connectors.
You offer both Standard Hosting Plans and Managed Plans (inSITE Range) - Whats the difference?
Our inSite range of plans are specifically tailored for customers who require a greater level of assistance with uploading and managing their Inticon service, offering extended support hours and a managed environment. Customers on managed inSite plans may request installation of common applications on their behalf.
Note that Inticon is unable to assist with website code or development issues, however Inticon staff are able to recommend customers to both Design and Development companies.
What is the difference between a domain and hosting?
A domain can be thought of as a street address, you give this to visitors to find your location. Hosting is the space at that location, allowing you to upload your website and manage your email addresses. Both a domain and hosting are required to successfully have your website visible on the Internet.
What is a Parked Domain?
A parked domain is a domain which shows the same content as your primary site. For example your primary site may be www.acmewidgets.com while a parked domain of www.wesellwidgets.com will show the same content.
What is an Add On Domain?
An add on domain allows a separate website to be maintained by a single account. This allows you to operate multiple websites, each with unique content, however access management tools from a single control panel. Note that Inticon terms of service prohibit add on domains from being resold.
Does Disk Space Reset Each Month?
No. Your disk space is a fixed unit that is the total sum of all files and email Inticon is storing on your behalf. Subsequently this is not reset at the start of a new month. Once you exceed this limit your account is suspended, however you retain access to both Email and FTP in order to remove unneeded files or mail.
What is Data Transfer, Does It Reset Each Month?
Data Transfer is a quota, indicative of how much data your website may utilise each month. Visits to your website account towards this quota, as do emails you send and receive. There is no easy way to determine how much data transfer your site will require, however your web developer should be able to provide the average page size for your website, and you can multiply this figure by the number of users you expect to visit your site. Once you exceed your data transfer quota, your account is suspended until the 1st of the month, or you arrange to upgrade your account.
